Ok, so I'm wondering if there is a document that I can read that will explain the file system. I found this . It seems to be what I'm looking for, but is there a complete doc to read?

The main reason I'm asking is because I'm hoping to block adds with the host file per another forum discussion. I can launch vim, but haven't yet figured out how to launch the host file to edit it. I had no problems opening the opera.ini file to increase the text size some.

Sorry if this seems rudimentry. I'm learning..will be for some time I think.

    Thanks everyone

    Hi,

vim /etc/hosts will do what you want. As for a doc, I don't know of one: try Googling for something like "unix file system" and "unix file system layout", that returned these two promising documents, but I don't know if they're at the right level for you:
    • http://www.unixgeeks.org/security/ne...nix/files.html

    HTH,

    Andrew

Those are both helpful, thank you.

I was able to launch the editor now as well. Maybe I was typing "host" instead of "hosts."

    Thank you again.
