    its all cool for me with the playing since am mostly interested in the recording.

    mine isnt moving the rootfs.jff2 one floor above because for some reason the permissions decided to mess up. it cannot preserve the ownership or something, and usually the n900 restarts when creating loopback image, due to overheating, but at the moment am normally clocked

    now its just dying from the loopback image FML

    Just curious.

    Can N900 play 480p or 720p H264 "main" profile? (N9 cannot it seems)

    Not preserving premissions is not a problem, it is OK in that way.
    And it isn't overheating,it is the watchdog that kicks in, same as when decompressing easy debian image. Today I will try to find a time to upload a new script which will setup i/o scheduler in such a way, that no reboot to occur. In the meantime - did you copy/paste the commands from EDIT section before executing the script?

    If you give me an example file(or post a link) I will check, but until now what is sure is that it cannot play YouTube videos @720p smoothly (i.e. as someone said high profile cabac).

    And what do you mean by saying "cannot play", it refuses to start playback, or it stutters?

    The Simpsons trailer here is 720p H264 Main profile.
    http://www.h264info.com/clips.html

    My Nokia N9 plays it like a 1 second per slide slideshow.
    It plays the sound fine. Just that video hardly moves.

    Same on n900, but this movie is Main profile CABAC. Seems C64+ DSP is not powerful enough for CABAC decoding on any clock (tried 790 MHz, still not enough).

    @freemangordon

    What do you say of this error? It happens randomly.

    Code:
    [100561.609313] dspbridge: timed out waiting for mailbox
    [100561.859588] WMD_DEH_Notify: ********** DEVICE EXCEPTION **********
    [100561.859619] WMD_DEH_Notify: DSP_SYSERROR, errInfo = 0x300
