Here's someone at Nokia talking about wifi and PR1.1

Wifi reception was one of the issues where we had to be dancing on the SAR boundaries. Although wifi in general has been improved by leaps and bounds in 1.1. For me at least, the reception is now perfectly good.

After my first post in this thread, I feel I had to state: Now that I have the N9, I can say it has better Wifi performance for me than the N900 and the C7.

Of course this will probably depend on your routers and other factors, but at least the N9 needn't always perform worse than other devices.

Did he say PR1.1? Mine is still at PR_005 and wi-fi reception is not up to the mark compared with other phones like N8 or SG2.

It's not out yet, coming soon....
Will go to N950 devs 1st and very soon going by all the rumours.
Then as happened for the fw currently on most N9's...
It'll prolly be made available to everyone else a couple of wks later.

With the first firmware I had issues connecting to my own router in my own house, or rather, issues with it disconnecting or the connection going 'stale' (connected but no data) after a while. Now I have PR1.1 and it is much better, stays connected to my network all day. I did do a comparison with my N900 though this morning and discovered that while the N900 discovered 27 networks in the vicinity, the N9 discovered only 5. That's a huge difference.

Just got my n9 and i have wifi issues
i can connect to b/.g but limited /.weak signal and distance or it drops
and very very lmited , distance of maybe couple meters to connect to wpa2, which is N wifi,
or else it drops or can't see it. everything else works
i even have my n900 that can connect with no problem , even from outside my house i can connect
I HVE PR 1.,1

The N9 wi-fi sensitivity is a little weaker than most but not that weak. It should only be an issue in marginal signal areas. If you're getting connection distance of a few metres it is not normal and should be investigated on the basis of hardware/software failure.
