My N900 has started to forget the date/time when I remove the battery which is really annoying as I replace the sim fairly often, and use a secondary battery. It's still under warranty so I should be able to send it back for repair. I suspect that Nokia would just send out something else in it's stead. Anyone know what they are currently replacing defunct N900s with these days?

I think its a well known issue that certain N900 were issued out with faulty batteries which does not save the date/time properly. A few of my N900 suffers that issue though I do not change my SIM card so often so it does not worry me too much about setting the date/time.

How many SIM cards do you have and that you need to change to? If its a few, maybe you can get those 2-in-1 SIM card `case' and try to minimise the amount of time spent changing SIM cards all the time let alone setting date/time each time you have to take the battery out. I mean the 2-in-1 SIM card `case' would be an ideal thing if you only have two SIM that you constantly interchange. You probably wouldn't want to change the SIM card all the time as well for some owners have reported issues with network connectivity. I do not know if that's related to one constantly changing SIM cards all the time or not but I'm suspecting it could be that.

As for sending it for repair, you will need to make sure that you read the terms and conditions for the repair from nokia care before you hand your device over. There are potential loopholes within the conditions which you can exploit should they return you a device that is not N900. This is especially true since your device is still under warranty. Some owners have had their N900 replaced with N8 or E7 as `equivalent' functionality to N900. Some rumours are now circulating around that nokia's N900 stock is running low so they may not be willing to replace your faulty N900 with another N900, you'll need to be prepared for that.

Also, using option (under clock settings) to automatically adjust date and time (based on GSM time function) solve this issue - time is adjusted on first data connection, or in ~30 seconds to minute of being in cell range (without data connection).

// Edit

Ooops, Omkar was first

Wow! They can do that?! I'd be super pissed. N8 or E7 <> N900 by any stretch of the imagination.

I recently ripped a 5800 apart, there is a tiny watch battery on the board that I assume is responsible for keeping the time when you remove the main battery. That cell is relatively easy to replace. If there is one on the N900 too, I doubt they will replace the whole phone for that reason. They will just replace that cell.
