It seems like the number requirement for dual booting option on any phone is the presence of a memory card slot. Since the Nokia N9 is lacking it, does that mean it would be very difficult to configure it to run on other OS?

Having a memory card isn't a necessity for dual boot, it did make things easier mind you. Most likely some kind of partitioning solution would be a suitable workaround.
