It could be the MyDocs filesystem has been mounted read-only (usually due to filesystem corruption). Try running (in X Terminal) "mount" and see whether the line for /dev/mmcblk0p1 has "rw" or "ro" listed after it.
If it is mounted read-only, and you have rootsh installed, you can do:

umount /home/user/MyDocs
fsck /dev/mmcblk0p1
mount /home/user/MyDocs
Alternately, you can connect the N900 to a PC in Mass Storage mode, right-click on the appropriate drive in Explorer, choose Properties, then Tools, then click "Check Now".

Were you root when you typed these commands into your N900's terminal?
Can you copy and paste to us what happened in the terminal when you did try to execute these commands, that will help us to help you much better then just telling us "but not work".
