This is not the same code used in fremantles mce.
But with some minor changes I was able to compile
the source in scratchbox and start this mce on the device.
Some things don't work (like notification light) and
some work (display control).
Major drawback at the moment, failure on reboot,
device is rebooting forever (not a reboot loop).

I have done analysis and if you expose a few specific things from your BME replacement, it is fairly simple to create something that can replace hald-addon-bme and libbmeipc and keep all the bits that need those things working.

libbmeipc is open source and hald-addon-bme only exports battery properties to HAL. There also exists mer code for hald-addon-bme. Really all programs depends only on libbmeipc or hal!

Assuming (as is likely) that we dont get the 0.1.4 version from PR1.3.1, I am going to look at it and figure out if its possible to take the 0.0.9 source and make fixes so that it is functionally identical to the 0.1.4 version.

On the other hand 0.0.9 is the last release that can be built without a
dependency to libcomapp-dev which is (also) closed source, so for a FOSS
substitute this really is the right version. It misses some features like the
"Add new certificate" button but it works and can be used so its better than
nothing I guess.
but libcomapp is open source. But that version is working and missing functionality is button "Add new certificate"

I would wait for a few days. There is a good chance that the latest sources will come available quite officially.

I do hope that the PR1.3.1 source does get released, it would be nice to have
Although I can think of plenty of N900 packages where source would be far more useful than the certificate manager applet :P
