hi everyone,
im new to both linux and the n900. i am trying to get the ip address of the n900 in xterm using ifconfig.
ifconfig wlan0

but it shows everything else other than the net addr, mask, and bcast. any help?
i connected the device using usb cable. will i get the computer's ip address using ifconfig usb0? how can i set the ip addresses for both the systems? im using ubuntu 11.10. my pc too doesn't show its ip address form sudo ifconfig usb0 or eth0. if i execute sudo ifconfig 192.172.162.1, it will show it till a reboot.

i am compltely new to networking. pls bear with me. i would appreciate it if some one could teach me the basics.
