ReCap: os08 updated borked so bad that was left without a functional machine. Try all suggestions except new host machine. Get idea to flash back to os07 and it works.

NOW: just tried to slip os08 into my n800 and same old funk. A person had emailed me with the same problem to ask me for a link to os07. he got it and it worked for him too. just wrote me to say that then he got os08 to flash. Wow!

BUT what about me? I tried and no go. tried to refash os07 and it found something on the web this time and I will let it download, only got 8 min left. Then it'll be back to os07 and leave it that way until I get better answers.

This might sound like a silly question? Are you using the Nokia supplied cable. I was using a cable, perhaps, not 2.0 not really sure, and it was messing up my tablet, or would not flash under linux. I switched to nokia supplied cable and it works everytime. It may not be your problem, but I thought it might be worth mentioning.

Thanks and yes I did use the one from Nokia. And one from Canon. And some other one I had hanging around.

Flash works fine to os07 hangs at the same spot on os08 either from a fresh download or from one of 3 downloaded ones plus 1 beta file.

Hard to imagine why OS2007 flashes fine but not OS2008.

I still think it could be related to the much larger file size of OS2008. OS2007 file is like 90 MB and OS2008 is 134 MB. Not sure what could be going wrong... as I said before, maybe something to do with memory or temp storage (I know you already said you have lots).

But it is something fairly unique to your setup and maybe a couple of others because most people have not run into this.

What version of FlasherGui.exe are you using? Right-click / Properties / Details. Mine is 1.2.2.0

If you have n800, 2007OS runs at 330Mhz, 2008OS runs at 400Mhz. Seems like a good reason to me? I am still running pre-beta 2008os

What I am using is the internet tablet software wizard. DL on 11-29. I'll go get me another copy of it. Like I've mentioned, it works to get the os07.

so what is flashergui.exe? When i asked how to do this I was confused about the process and how sometimes there is this flasher mentioned but then again there were times that people said just use the wizard and all will be well.

That was the first thread I started. So which way is what?

On to the next aspect to this mystery:

What Could Be different enough with my system you think? Nothing running much. Standard services sure some virus and spam thingys. But from here, the basic only thing that is running is the wizard i rarely encounter memory shortage problems and I use cad, rip, convert, web cruse, and have word perfect running with multiple windows open on two monitors. Just sharing that my system isn't slack. I'm doing these now without anything on. even closing somethings, desk search printer utilities and what nots. AMD64 340 w/ 768 mb of ram. should be enough.

Thank you all so much. I have enjoyed this process. Well not to diminish the frustration just that it has helped me to get around to committing to really learning the way of the tablet including programing.

I'm sure this will get resolved. and the repositories are slammed so there would be no repopulating the device just yet.

I don't want to waste your time... I'm totally just guessing at what might be wrong, so feel free to ignore my questions.

FlasherGui.exe is the wizard program. You'd have to find it under "C:\Program Files\Nokia\Nokia Internet Tablet Software Update Wizard".

I don't suppose you're running the 64-bit version of XP or something, are you?
