I'd thank each and everyone of you for the witty banter in this thread, but I don't see the 'Thanks' button anywhere! Nope - didn't search for it, just noticed it's not there!

The Thanks button is automatically disabled when the wit level falls below acceptable thresholds.

Yes, it's a feature.

Reading the forum today I feel like I'm in a temporal loop. Every 3rd post is a repeat of something already covered. And duplicate threads are multiplying like rabbits.

I see GenAnt is up the creek because he's being too curt in his answers and not hand-holding enough.

I'm trying to restrain myself from commenting in the threads... I really am.

There seems to be a LOT of people who would rather start their own thread or post their own question, rather than read someone else's thread or read the answer that was previously posted.

I'm kinda hoping the place will implode from everyone posting and nobody reading. Then perhaps those on the periphery will be blown out of orbit and only the solid core will remain.

Thank heavens I have this thread for sanctuary. But my humour is too downtrodden at the moment from what I've seen today... I can't even manage a decent bit of sarcasm. I'll be back later.

Technut: Back to my point about the troubleshooting stuff. We've always wondered about how prolific tablets are out there, and I think we just got served notice that they've hit the mainstream. Every single tech msg board whether it be software or device related has hit the point we're at now. Usually the people who've been around for a while get up in arms and tear the new people a new something-else (read: any Linux forum) but I'd *really* like to see that not happen here.

I think restructuring might be needed (sorry Reggie, I could hear you sigh from here)... something like a Troubleshooting main forum and tablet or OS specific subforums. At this point it *does* look like a major chunk of the topics/subtopics need to be devoted to it.

I've always hated the idea of moderators (think "little Hitlers") but this stuff's gotta be moved to keep the forums usable. Ionno about you guys but I always like reading about new developments, not troubleshooting things that have been posted a zillion times... but I do try to at least be nice when/if I can answer the questions.

That's exactly why I suggested, some posts back, that new users should be allowed to post only in existing threads, and be made to wait until they reach a certain level of posts and/or membership duration before they can create their own threads.

This seems to be common practice on a lot of boards, and is probably an option in vBulletin.

No one followed up when I first mentioned it (probably because this very thread is not meant for serious propositions :-), but I still believe now would be the right time to do this.

I'm kinda hoping the place will implode from everyone posting and nobody reading. Then perhaps those on the periphery will be blown out of orbit and only the solid core will remain.
The danger is that the opposite result is equally probable : the "solid core" leaving in disgust or going to lurk mode, with the forum contents turning to vacuum.

Funny you should mention that fpp. I hit this thread first because I actually wanted to read it and just spent 30 mins going through the rest of the topics.

It's all troubleshooting, complaining, prices for tablets (that make for awesome topics since they change in 2 days).

This is insane. 90% of it is redundant.
