Hi kai_en, I think there's no need to read the whole thread jalyst was recommending. But if it's possible, can you please borrow your brothers N9 and take a look if:
1. for example in browser, or Gtalk/Skype, where's a light or white background, this effect appears? - http://blip.tv/ossi1967/nokia-n9-display-issues-5657368
2. when you take the phone to the completely dark room, wait for some time so your eyes can adapt to the level of the light, do you see some darker/lighter spots on the screen?
It seems, that Nokia maybe changed the panel supplier/fixed the N9 screen issues on the newer batches. So once again - please can you confirm if these aforementioned issues appears on your brothers N9, or if it's just the color tint, that's different.
Any reply will be strongly appreciated! Thanks.

It is good in sunlight, could save some battery and production cost..
Ok, let's call it a crappy compromise then.
My easy tired eyes tell me it is not healthy to read long time on this thing.
I've been checking them more than before the N9's purchase (unfortunately my confidence in Nokia to use top notch screen hardware was too high)
At this point you may line up 5 LG's , Samsungs or Nokia's and I can detect the pentile from further than hand held reading distance.
It does not fit my usage scenario which is maximum readability of full web pages without zoom.
If it was not for the Pentile which is not fixable feature I might just have been the N9's biggest fan.
The colour cast gone will not make this a better screen. It will only do justice to the user that paid for maximum quality the pentile amoled has to offer.
That said, I don't like to be paying guinea pig for screen technologies and will go off bug Nokia about it.

Seeing how it turned out for n9, it is no wonder that no manufacturers use amoled display these days other than Samsung and otherwise Nokia. Amoled at its infancy clearly showed lots of problem and only Samsung who actually produces(largely in the market) amoled has the capabilties to meet the technical demand fast enough for its growing demand

@jalyst, have you been able to get hold with the display expert Kontorri recommended? Would like to hear what he has to say regarding the issue
