Now we will need to make sure they don't fix the typo and we all go back to errors.
They will certainly fix it.
In any case, we do not know what repostory.maemo.org really is - it might be a plain DNS error, but it could also be the source server for the Akamai stuff, their internal staging host, or the original server temporarily taken down and renamed for repairs. In which case it would not improve matters if everybody starts hammering at it...
I am new to all of this and have been having trouble downloading along with many other users (in particular Python and Kagu), but I noticed an initial spelling error on one of the repositories when I flashed to OS2008. On a hunch, for the maemo Extra repository, I changed the address to http://repostory.maemo.org/extras/ (catalogue maemo extras, Chinook, free non-free). I was then able to download immediately with no problem.
Could it be a simple spelling mistake leading to all this trouble?

You're my hero. I got python and kagu installed. You really don't appreciate some things until you go without them, lol. Thanks!
There is NO issue with spelling errors in Nokias DNS! They rather have some failure of their Akamai proxying, for reasons unknown.
Any misspelled name (that is any name other than the names of other maemo services) points to the repository home server, thus bypassing the dead proxies. Presumably, they set up a DNS catch-all for it while they still were serving immediately, which fortunately was not removed when they went the Akamai route, so that we can now (ab)use it to skip the poisoned caches which currently disturb or sometimes even block the way to the content behind the original url.
If you dislike repostory.maemo.org, you may as well use respiratory.maemo.org, recovery.maemo.org, happyxmas.maemo.org or whatever.maemo.org...

The spelling issue also affects some 2007 apps. I also reverted back to 2007 due to lack of apps and other 2008 issues. I had to change the spelling for the extras repository url before I could install the microB browser. Kept getting the corrupted file error message.
