    Wow,

Excellent app guys. Just went for my first spin with it in the car. Need to play a bit more and figure out how to preload all maps I need etc. (I'm sure it's in the threads somewhere).

Seams a little unstable, but not used it enough to be able to give specifics.

Love the voice guidence. Even my Tomtom Mobile did not have that.

    Now for the BUT

I really find the directions text/speech confusing. It is based on North up, not direction of travel. I'm assuming this is to do with the way the instructions are supplied to it.

But any options to changes this so you can get direction of travel directions. At the moment, each time it says turn left, I have to think which left.

    Again, fantastic work guys.

    Thanks,

    Zuber

Just had a look at google maps. No option for manner in which directioss are displayed. So unless there is an alternative server for directions, it don't look too promising...

Would it be possible to parse the string and substitute based on direction of travel or somethng like that ?

i.e. just swap left/right text if direction of travel is beyond a threshold. Not sure how reliably it would work, but already spin map round etc.

Assuming you are using google maps as your repository, the directions come from google maps and are the same directions you would get if you went right to google maps. But google map directions, or any other online mapping location, doesn't provide directions based on North up, so I'm not really sure what you are referring too?

So Google Maps provides as you drive directions. Strange...

As I was following the route, there were a couple of occations when it said turn left but actually showed right (correctly).

Will try another trip and see what happens...

It's pretty easy to confuse right and left with the computer-generated voice. I've noticed that on my Palm with Mapopolis as well as MM. The voice makes them sound very similar, for some reason. Just look at the display, and it also helps to know which way you're going to turn by checking the route in advance. That isn't always possible, I know.

What I'm waiting for on this app is the ability to dynamically reroute after a wrong turn or detour, or just knowing that there is a better route. With that, it would be perfect. Until I get that, I'll keep my old Palm running Mapopolis available. It will take two GPS receivers, but luckily I happen to have two available.

I had the same problem. Here's what worked for me:

First install the fix in the thread:

    http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=13721

under "Here's a simpler way to fix this".

Then in Application Manager do Check for Updates.

Then maemo mapper can be found under "Applications" and will install OK from there.

well Maemo Mapper doesn't do the locking... your GPS receiver does and your location in space and time.
