I have now tried uninstalling quicklaunch. Now opening the cover never seems to have an effect. I suppose it is possible thta the magnet has slipped and is causing random effects but the camera app when running always knows when the door is open so I guess the magnet is telling it. However if anyone can tell me where to find the magnet I shall check it. Would still like to know whether there is some kind of process that watches the lens cover as with my limited experience that would be my guess for the problem area.

There is no magnet it is an optical sensor if you take the back off and look at the lens cover you will see a white and black stripe. It reads that, you could try cleaning it, if the white portion has spots/dirt on it it could possibly cause problems or the sensor itself could have lint or something covering it

open the camera lens wait 30 sec then open xterm and type

"dbus-send --session --print-reply --dest=com.nokia.cameraui /com/nokia/cameraui com.nokia.cameraui.top_application"

hit enter

copy and paste the output from the terminal

Thanks mike. I did, and this is the output in the Xterminal:
BusyBox v1.10.2 (Debian 3:1.10.2.legal-1osso30+0m5) built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

-sh: /home/user/.bashrc: line 5: cannot create /dev/cgroup/cpu/user/6719/tasks: nonexistent directory
-sh: /home/user/.bashrc: line 5: cannot create /dev/cgroup/cpu/user/6719/notify_on_release: nonexistent directory
~ $ dbus-send --session --print-reply --dest=com.nokia.cameraui /com/nokia/cameraui com.nokia.cameraui.top_application
method return sender=:1.215 -> dest=:1.220 reply_serial=2

Your xterm seems to show a problem with bash? Doesn't look too healthy but that's by-the-by!

The dbus command has the response it should (I believe). What else happens when you run this command?

His bash is suffering from speedpatch remnants. Which leads me to believe he has batterypatch installed too.

@Karam - will you please help that guy to clean up the mess you've created on his device.
