You want performance gain, reflash and overclock. That's it. Speedpatch is problems only. Why would you install something that has been proven to break an already optimized system. How can you stand having an error in xterm and say it's awesome and working flawlessly?

Freemangordon has increased N900's performance btw. Can a stock N900 run 720p?

Congratulations Mohatroll, you just gained honorable place on my ignore list (amongst such "great" individuals as epitaph, abil, trisha, jamesbondage - have nice time with them).

@Others - I suggest to do the same, no need to bloat productive thread with responses to such sh***y posts.

Just read this today and decided to give this a test drive at work.

I havent't really fiddled much with HD recording but while this does really enable 720p playback, I'm quite aware of there being no guarantee to the smoothness of the playback. But that aside, looks like I will won't have to worry about being unable to play previously unable to be played 480p MKVs, most of which are starting to move on to a higher standard of H.264 encoding (I hear stuff like Hi10p or something...)

Playback of these, while suffering from noticeable frameskips in order to keep audio in sync with the video and subtitles, are pretty satisfactory provided you don't mind about the frameskips, though.

720p MKVs, well... I (or WE, in general) might have to live with the fact that while the N900's hardware can play it, smoothness is something else to be thought of. Though I'm ever ready to be proven wrong, as usual

All in all thanks freemangordon for these. Now I don't have to be worried about boredom when I go back and forth from work

This development looks awesome and thanks to everyone involved! However, I wish I would have noted this thread BEFORE I installed CSSU-stable a little over a week ago. At any rate, I performed all the steps described in post #1 successfully, except I haven't overclocked DSP yet. I'm running PK49 with limits of 500, 850. A DVD XVid rip of Thor (2011) in mpeg-4 runs fine on my N900 with media player. However, a 720p recording of the Art of Flight (.mkv file) stutters badly, skips and drops frames like no tomorrow.

Before I endeavor in overclocking DSP to see if that helps, I feel compelled to ask a question:

Do I have any chance of making this all work like it's supposed to on CSSU-Stable, or do I absolutely need CSSU-Testing? If it's possible with Stable, do I need to do anything differently from (or in addition to) the steps outlined in Post #1? TYIA. Jeff

WTF? 300 MHz is not a suported frequency, I would recommend to execute (as root)"kernel-config show" to check your actual limits. And if you are going to OC DSP, it think it is better to try if dsp profile is stable on your device, it has all DSP OC needed.

You need CSSU-Testing only for newer camera-ui which supports DVD and HD resoutions video recording. So if you don't want to record videos with resolution higher than 848x480 you can stay with CSSU-Stable.

Thanks for the quick reply! Sorry, I've edited my post with respect to my limits. So there's no way to get/install the newer camera-ui to allow DVD and HD resolution recording without having CSSU-Testing? Jeff

And such error doesn't bother you and doesn't make you feel like your system is broken?

You got that wrong buddy. N900 needs better drivers, codecs to be able to unleash the needed power to process 720p. Thanks to him, N900 is capable of keeping up in the HD mobile era and live longer.

Stop this already, this whole conversation is off topic.

Stock N900 won't play 720p. Just being able to get it playing (and recording in that resolution), I suppose, is a testament to performance increment.

Though I think I'm saying that because I set my standards too low or something...
