    Ghostscript + more complete evince

I compiled version 0.9.0 of evince with support for additional formats - djvu, dvi and postscript. The new package (only for n800, currently) is available at

    http://www.arava.co.il/matan/770/evi....0-1_armel.deb

This package was created from source available from maemo extras repository, with changes to config options to enable additional formats.

Evince support for djvu requires newer version of djvulibre library. Package (works on both n800 and 770) here:

    http://www.arava.co.il/matan/770/evi...19-1_armel.deb

This package was compiled from debian package of this library, with no changes.

Evince support for postscript file requires ghostscript. Ghostscript packages (for both n800 and 770) are here:

    http://www.arava.co.il/matan/770/evi...0.3.13_all.deb
    http://www.arava.co.il/matan/770/evi...-1.1_armel.deb
    http://www.arava.co.il/matan/770/evi...re41-3_all.deb

All three packages are necessary. Those packages were compiled from debian source packages after some changes to remove documentation files from the packaging. Ghostscript X driver is not included, so the way to use this package to display postscript files is with evince. (Or convert to image, and use image viewer to view said image).

Evince support for dvi requires maemotex installed, and in addition, a few files available at:

    http://www.arava.co.il/matan/770/evince/dvifiles.tgz

To install, copy this file to the device and run as root (using xterm or ssh):

    tar xzf dvifiles.tgz -C /

    Some corrections are needed:

The gs-gpl package I uploaded was incorrect. The current package should work.

The ghostscript and djvulibre packages are not application manager compatible. They can only be installed from command line with dpkg.

    See detailed explanations in

Is there any chanche to open .cbr files with evince? I found evidence it was possible, but tried with the version I actually installed and it doesn't seem to recognize them at all.

Can you use evince to view these comic books on the n800?

Matan, thanks for all your efforts. Evince is another indispensible app on my N800. This additional functionality is very welcome.

Yeah, I know there is some sort of compression in cbr files, but also you can manage a large collection of images/files through a sigle file (i.e., having the whole 1967 peanuts collection into a single file instead of all the uncompressed images into a folder.. much more manageable IMHO)

Bump. Ditto. Evince, especially with cbr/cbz support for OS2008 please!

http://mango.dia.unisa.it/maemo (chinook free) has ghostscript packaged and working... so just evince is needed now.
