I know, I'm just complaining about the internal gps on the n810

I'm having a problem with Maemo Mapper 2.2. I get the message "Invalid Nmea data" or something like that, and the getting GPS fix box stays on forever. The GPS data screen shows what appears to be the correct altitude and the number of sats and 3d fix, but he lat and long are way off and the GPS time is also off (probably the GPS time for the lat and long displayed).

The GPS receiver is a Garmin GPS 10, which did work with a previous version of Maemo Mapper, before I upgraded my N800 to OS2008, but I get the same thing in OS2008 and have since downgraded back to OS2007 and still the same probem with V2.2 of maemo mapper. Maemo Mapper is able to find the GPS and insert the MAC address OK.

Just want to report that the Holux M1000 BT GPS module works great with this application. My son gave me the GPS and I spent four or five hours downloading the Eastern US maps. Syncs up very easily and works great. These are about $30 to $50 on Ebay.

I have the same issue. MM works fine, with HOLUX BT1000 GPS. But. if I close MM and try to reopen, nothing happens. I need to shut off/restart N800 for MM to launch properly.

Sebring, your Garmin may be set up for Garmin protocol, not NMEA. You will need to change that on the GPS, somehow. I don't have that model, but every other Garmin I've owned or seen defaults to Garmin protocol, which is useless for anything other than Garmin programs.

Thanks for the reply. I had thought of that, but it has always worked with non-Garmin software before, without needing any tweaking, including an earlier version of Maemo Mapper.

found a bit of an inconvenience. cant really say its a bug, but it was a bit of a PITA.

download a route, and mark it to "Auto-Update"
do not provide a means for your tablet to Auto-Update, like do not allow the connection to a GPRS phone or WiFi.
drive off course and allow the Auto-Update to start. it gives you a "Host not found" error message with an "OK" button, since the tablet cannot get to the internet.

the error message repeats so quickly that you almost cant do anything but click "OK". i am not sure what should happen in this case, but the app is useless in this scenario, since the error message will cancel the menuing. trying to clear the route took me about 8 tries with very quick tapping in between error messages. if an additional button could be put into that error box allowing you to turn off Auto-Update, you could avoid the error message looping.

Is it possible the protocol got changed somehow? I haven't found much info on the 10, but the manual (mostly covering the Garmin software) does say it can transmit either NMEA or Garmin proprietary. I have no idea how this is switched - the Garmin site is pretty unresponsive, and I finally gave up on it.

I just bought a N800 recently and tried to install Maemo Mapper 2.2 on it but got some problems.

My N800 has the latest OS2007, and it complains the package libgdbm3 and libxau0 are missing when I tried to install the Maemo Mapper. I found the site http://repository.maemo.org/extras/dists/bora/install/ and download the two installation files for them.

But when I installed these two(libgdbm3, libxau0), both said it can't find the package from the site.

What's wrong with that repository location, and where can I find these libraries? It's kind of frustrating.

Can anyone help me get the gps detail feature to work?

I've got a Jentro BT-GPS-8 bluetooth gps receiver. It shows my position great with MM, but when I enable "show details", all the details are blank ('-' dashes). For what it's worth, a datasheet on the gps shows that it data logs with "NMEA 0183 Version 3.01 (WGS84)".
