Open terminal and do

Then kill the process with pid from the command.

That seems to solve it.

Another salient question: is there any reasonable way to clean out the ~/.cache/tracker/meta.db file (without deleting it and starting from scratch)? It looks like it's used by every native app. Mine is over a million lines, with over 400K INSERT statements.

in the terminal should also work and is a bit easier. The sync must be underway for the process to exist.
