Thats why i do not use GMail, Google Calendar, Contacts, or related services your favorite data mining corporation provides.

Thats why i use Memotoo (with paid account, actually), a service operating in France and therefore subject to European Data Privacy Laws and regulations. And it's way more functional/provides more interfaces than the Gugl stuff. (Besides that, Google has a known history to shut down lesser popular services)

Under the "trust" premise, it makes no sense at all going the Google route, other than "the majority in the Western hemisphere uses Google services, my friends including, and/or i simply don't know better".

Memotoo (btw with excellent reputation) operates now for more than a decade (2001-2012). Thomas Pequet (Memotoo developer) also communicates/works tightly with Patrick Ohly (main developer of syncevolution), as you could see from mailing lists, and steadily announces features, new services (like CardDav) and new devices - so you can even continue with it when you buy that 5" Samsung plastic-spade, iDevice, or Lumia.

So, it is each to his own i guess.

Is there a place that offer free sync service for calendar (multiple) and contacts that work on N9 for free? Google caldav is unreliable and ovi contacts doesn't want to update info I synced.

You are just proving the case by stating that. Most people i know use GMail, Facebook, WhatsApp etc. because it's "free" (as in "it doesn't cost"), "it's easy", and they do not care or dig in the details like "terms of service" or "privacy statements".

I know i'm very special in my circles, but _i_ do not trust what others in my circles use per se, because they are neither involved nor interested enough or at all to know _why_, other than "my other acquaintances told me about it/use it too". That's for example exactly how Facebook went big, despite all it's dirty and sometimes even ell-known tricks.

People i know almost always make the wrong choice in my opinion (because its a pure "consumer" choice, like for the majority of people, regardless of country or circles), that's why i only take comments or data from web sources for my own research or review procedures.

I do not consent to Google for indexing the contents of my email messages (or analyze my contacts) to make it even easier for them, for why they operate as a business: targeted ads.
(And no it's not the same that unencrypted emails could be "read" inbetween server transmission, if your direct mail provider spies on you)

Long story short: if it just works for you, ok. But don't get angry _if_ some day some people request that you do not email or phone them / restrict their communication with you.

Because you _could_ potentially or _are_ actively / helping exploiting their private data (email addresses, phone numbers, residency addresses, communication content etc.) that they share with you to corporations like Apple, Facebook, or Google by using certain services or sites.

Reason is; "if i trust you with my private, personal data, and you caressly or willingly exploit it, i will revoke my trust and sharing"
