Hedgecore, is what you're saying is true, consumers have to wait 2 more generations for Nokia to have introduced a mature Internet Tablet?! Nokia's in it for the Money, they had better change their business plan fast because Asian companies like HTC, Samsung have "All-in-ones". This is a consumer driven business, people want things to work "out of the box", the ordinary consumer want things as simple as possible. Not all are techno-geeks like us, well I consider myself one anyways!!
i have the n810. I really need a calendar and to do list. I installed the gpesummary suite from maemo.org but it crashes. I looked through this post but it does't work for me. Any suggestions and how tos for the n810?
Garnet VM sucks, and it's a kludge at best. I finally just uninstalled it, because it's so useless. IMO, the reason Nokia left out PIMs and calendar is that they expect you to have a Nokia smartphone, or at least a phone, which has those, and if you don't, you should buy one from them. More sales, more profit. I'm not going to buy a phone from Nokia under any circumstances now, but I think that's their reasoning, faulty as it may be. I also tried the GPE suite, and deleted it. It's also useless. I'm reduced to keeping my contacts and calendar on my EeePC in JPilot. If I could get JPilot to run on the N800 I would be very happy, and look no further. Barring that, I'm still carrying my Palm T3. I don't want to do that, but I have no other choice, and the N800 isn't getting nearly as much use as it could, and should.
GPE will sync to jpilot or kpilot on this box via USB?!? COOL, just *exactly* what I need to start taking the n800 out of the drawer and taking it with me rather than the Z31!
Thank you!
And yes, garnet is a problem here too, I just haven't installed it yet. Crashed a couple times and will apparently only sync to wincrap (net sync only).
Lack of a useful PIM on this thing, while not a deal breaker, is rather disappointing. All my experience with Nokia up to this point has been VERY positive :-/.
Nokia wants you to buy a Nokia smartphone as a companion to the N8xxx I think. Certainly both Ari and others in management have argued that 'there's PIM on the smartphone so you don't need it on the tablet' -- which is of course rubbish almost whichever way you turn it. We're also lots of folks here on ITT who think that the ideal companion to the N8xx isn't a large expensive smartphone, but a small cheap network-enabled non-smartphone.
Anyway, I'm totally in line with those of you arguing that 1) we need _proper_ PIM apps (at least calendar and contacts), and 2) GPE is nowhere near e.g. Palm functionality.
(I'm still looking at the genecash calendar app -- at least it seems to have all possible incarnations of scheduling options. It's Python so shouldn't take long to get into OS2008 either.)
i know this is completely off topic , but i cant find any other way to post it , i changed the format of the page to mobile on my desktop running firefox , how do i get back to the normal view... i dont see anything for me to click on to change back???

Agree 1000%!

When I had os2007 on my n800, I tried the calendar app and Info on Tap (which also looks very promising and could fill a huge gap). The calendar worked but seemed to have a few bugs. I couldn't get Info on Tap to save at all so I concluded that these were extremely promising, but not ready for prime-time yet (unfortunately).
