If it's not useful to _you_ does not mean it's not useful to someone else.

- N8 breathing light is very useful.

- if the led on N9 isn't why have one for the charging even. Seems like a waste.

- led on a dimmed room is very noticeable. I sometimes keep my N9 on a shelf, and although I can't see the led to the other side of the room during the daytime, I can see it even to the other room in the evening and night.

Wholeheartedly agree. When my N9 is charging on the coffee table and I'm in the kitchen making tea, I can see the led slowly blink. When it's not charging and I get an sms or email, I can see an extra white "blob" on the screen, but I have to really squint to make sure it's not the Silent icon or something. If the led blinked, I would know I had an email or sms or whatever that needed checking.
I think the led should be utilized for this purpose, and I hope that, now Inception is out and about, we won't wait long for something like that.

Some people seem to forget that these small things are huge in making the overall experience better.
Whilst no other leading phone manufacturer even considers a standby screen, Nokia provides - and the breathing/blinking LED is just something else that can improve every use enormously.

My Womans SG2 at a glance cannot tell if:
- It is charging or not
- If it is even on
- The Time
- Any email/SMS notifications

Without touching a button we have this information. How is this not great?

much agreed. I think it also helps with the battery life of the phone. We wouldn't have to press the button turn on the screen and check. Less prone to accidents and just a little extra time in the day to enjoy other things in life .

I've posted what bothers me about the default calendar application.

http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=231

For this reason, I would suggest that the calendar alerts should also be notified by blinking Led.

N9 should learn a thing or two from the N900.

What bothers me more, is not just the LED not being used for new e-mails, but no sound alert for new e-mails after the first one arrives. Thus bug is very annoying.

I wonder if we could flash some full brightness solid color squircles on the lockscreen as a kind of workaround for no rgb led?
