So I just upgraded my phone from a Treo 755p (Sprint) to a BlackBerry 8130.

Now when I try to connect via bluetooth to my phone it connects, the Pearl (8130) says "Modem Mode Enabled" then 2seconds later that disappears, and my N800 says "Network Connection Error."

Whats the deal here?

Could be the settings are off...I had to correct mine..(BTW it would help to know which carrier you use)...my defaults had to be changed to:

wap.voicestream.com

Phone Number to dial: *99***1#

Username and password are all blank

Word of warning, I have never gotten a "stable" tether with my Pearl(8100). It works sort of. I can browse web pages if I retry often enough and everything is very slow even on a 5 bar edge connection.

I got my hands on a nokia 6263 over the weekend and with only a gprs connection everything worked much faster. Web pages loaded on the first try. Email worked where it never did with the pearl.

Both the pearl and the 6263 testing where done at my house with the same carrier (t-mobile) and the same n800 so this was an apples to apples test to the best of my ability.

There are several threads on this site about the challenges of tethering using a blackberry.

Hope you have better luck than I have had. I have a nokia 6267 on the way. T-Mobile (my carrier) has crippled the 6263 too much but that is another story...

There is a slight a chance the new 2008 OS fixed DUN to work with Blackberries. Anyone willing to give it a try?

Just initiated the update. it didn't work at all. I was hoping someone knew or had an idea on what settings it should be.

I've connected with my treo 755p, and I also connected with a few samsungs. So its clearly something with the Pearl.

Have you ever tethered your BB to your laptop? If not, you need to call sprint and have them add the PAM (Phone as modem) option to your account. Please let me kn ow how this works out ad I have an 8830 looking to get an n810 and use tethering.

I have the Blackberry 8703, and I have not been able to successfully teather for more than two seconds. I am on Verizon, and their official response is, "That is not supported". I did speak with one person who tried to help, but unfortunately she was clueless.

Good Luck,
Hal

I have sprint which is very lax about tethering. They allow it for free! VZW does not allow it unless you pay for it. Do you have the extra plan? I tether my BB 8830 to windows XP over bluetooth all the time, so I know it works. I'm curious if it is going to work with the tablet.
