looks ok. and to me it's more like an N900 than the N950.

I'd definitely prefer an N950 over the N9, but still bought an N9 because it is full of awesome and all the other Phone OSs that I've seen annoy me.

I do still miss Maemo 5 though, that would be cool to port to the N9 too... well one can dream... N955 all the way!

I have contacted a manufacture and asked them and set up a request form i created a thread a while back for it.

It has a caps-lock key which even on desktops is often mapped to escape by vi users.

As for the useless menu key (I guess that's the one above caps lock) and its remapping to ctrl it would be helpful to know if it produces any output in xev if pressed.
No idea if xev is available on the N9, but if Easy Debian is then running xev there will be fine.

Looks like Amazon has this keyboard as well. Reviews seem to knock a lack of key illumination and bulk as cons. Everything else seems positive about it. Definitely thinking about this mod now.

On a side note this slider looks interesting:
    http://www.amazon.com/NUU-K2-1-MiniK...6047725&sr=8-9

It's a bit more expensive but I wonder how difficult it would be to mod. It has illuminated keys as well (if that is a concern for anyone).

Going only by pictures and not having an N9 to guage by makes it hard for me to be certain, but it looks as if that second slider has a little bit less of an overlap when it's open...possibly enough so to make it easier to modify sufficiently to allow use of the N9 camera while open.

I am tempted to buy the second slider and mod it but I think I will hold off until there is more testing with hiding the vkb.

rainisto's BTinput works real well for the case you want to use a terminal. You have an option to switch between vkb and btkb. So when you need that missing key, like esc you can toggle back to vkb and use the esc key there. As I understand, this is designed for terminal. So if you want to go to, for example, web then you still have vkb on screen. It would be nice to generalize rainisto's work for all input. Also it would be cool if mouse worked but, as I recall, rainisto says this has performance problems.

I have a small logitech BT keryboard at home that I am using with an HTPC. I'll try that out first with rainisto's BTinput.

I like that the Nuu keyboard is backlit but who knows what would be involved in modding that. I'll have to see if there is a store that carries it so I can see it first hand before dropping some money on it.

    @script.ninja

It does look like a cutout could be made on the Nuu slider for the camera. I'm going to investigate it a little further.

    Hey,
This is a great idea. The backight is also good. My personal preference is for a vertical slider, makes it more like a Nokia E71/72 or BB style (and with the slider same concept as the Torch). Like this one: http://www.boxwave.com/cases-and-cov...ion/bwpds/vgw/
Boxwave also has a request form to request they make accessories for specific devices here http://www.boxwave.com/community/req...?productid=629

They make accessories for the N900 already, so they aren't afraid to make accessories for niche devices (although I'm guessing there are many more N9s that have been sold so far than N900s).

Maybe a mass request will help.
I'd also love this double as an extended battery, athough it would be difficult with the door for the micro usb port (mine broke a few months ago, so it's aways open for me). Maybe I should start a new thread on extended battery options?

Can somebody spot the screw holes on the Nu mini Iphone case so we can unscrew them and replace with our N9 case? I'm watching the youtube videos and I can't see where the holes are so far.

edit: At 5:34 from the underside on this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wd5svq8RyY
It looks like it is riveted on with 8 rivets near top and maybe another 8 on bottom.
hmmm Well I'm in machine class. I should be able to do anything. I could stick it in a vise and punch out the rivets maybe - destroying the iphone case then use or drill whatever holes I want.
I'm still just a student but maybe I'll ask teach for advice on this and do it as a project.

edit again: Wait at 2:57 here
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vhgsjd8xyaE
are those 2 black strips tape that hides screw holes?

edit yet again: Or you can go with the TK-421

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/ThinkGeek-TK...item3f16b2c3b0

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dac9G0a15Pg

with HUGE keyboard real estate but you're going to have to flip it upside down then swivel the keyboard open.
But wow look at the HUGE FULL keyboard. I think I'm going to try out that one since I have big fingers and hit wrong keys a lot.
