For the past week, my battery has been draining seriously. When I check the battery usage app, "device idle" is always at the top of the list in terms of consumption even when I'm using other apps. When I check it it shows processor usage at around 100% every time. I flashed my phone (not the emmc) and still the same thing. Is there any way I can figure out which apps might be running in the background??

I had a similar situation when I stopped plugging my phone into my car's USB port on the way to work for a few days. After that it was always dead by 3PM. I reduced my WAY too frequent email and calendar sync schedules and stopped updating installations when I was in a bad signal area and away from a power plug and now I'm great.

If you want to see what apps are running and taking up the most CPU while the device is idle (with the screen locked), then you can just ssh to the N9 (with dev mode enabled) and type:

    top

This will show you everything that's running and the % of CPU and RAM those apps are using. Just hit the q key to quit top when you're done.
