does conference calls work in n900?

I am pretty sure if both callers are from the same carrier, then conference call will work.

But if a call is from, say a SIP account, and the other call is from, say Skype, can you tie these two calls together?

Yes, if the transport you are using supports it (since it is something that happens on their gear, not the handset) it would work just fine. On the n900 it works for GSM if the carrier supports it, and for Skype calls, since skype supports it.

how would that work, exactly? (of course you can't do that, but I'm wondering how you might think that would work)

    Hello,
I was joyous to see inbuilt conference call feature in N900.
when I tried to make conference call; every attempt was rejected by the phone. Always it remarked "Request Rejected".
I first dialled to 'A', than using menu I selected 'B' from my contacts and called him, and clicked the button 'Start Conference' ; But It always resulted in " Request Rejected".

Any Idea how to establish conference calls?
    Regards and Thanks in advance.

    from the manual:

    Make a conference call
    Select > Phone.
Conference calls (network service) can only be made over
cellular networks and can have a maximum of three
    participants (including yourself).
    Call the first participant
Enter a participant's phone number, or select a contact from
    your contacts list.
    Add an additional participant
Open the menu, and select New call to contact or New call
    to number.
    Start the conference
Open the menu, and select Start conference call.

Trying to confirm if the bolded part is correct. I'd like to be able to initiate a conference call from my N900 using SIP, this feature should be supported by the SIP provider, but following the above steps does not work. I can make a call, and then put start a new call (which puts the original call on hold) but there is no option to conference or merge the calls in the menu once I have both online. Am I out of luck, or is there something I'm overlooking?
