OK - then the Linux site is in error: "Expansion slot supports flash cards up to 8GB; compatible with miniSD and microSD with extender"

It doesn't mention anywhere about HC card support even on the Nokia tech. specs.. But I am a newbie - not a know-it-all so I am subject to being very incorrect. Just going by what I found in the last month or so.

Funny, that's exactly what I said about a 2GB card ten years ago.

Yes, this was confirmed in maemo-developers. Also from good source (written i C :-) it looks like it is Samsung moviNAND chip. Sadly this is BGA chip so it is hard/impossible to remove without destroying the chip or even board. Still if board is not damaged one could perhaps connect bigger SD (or preferably mmc card if it needs 1.8V) to those pins as described on moviNAND page.

"the Linux" site? Just one of many, and not necessarily authoritative.

linuxdevices.com have just repeated this quote verbatim from the Nokia N810 press release.

8GB is all that Nokia are prepared to commit to supporting right now as it's the largest capacity they will have tested with, however it's been verified that 16GB full-SD works fine in an N800 and the way SDHC cards are supported in the Linux kernel there is no reason to suspect that capacities beyond 8GB will not work (whether microSD, miniSD or full-size SD).

It doesn't need to mention HC card support (though it wouldn't do any harm if it did to avoid confusion). All cards above 4GB must be HC/SDHC compatible, so by implication SDHC is supported if 8GB+ cards are supported.
