I have been reading the N810 and newbie threads for 2 months, starting right before I ordered my unit in November. I received it today and put in the battery and plugged in the charger. The word NOKIA shows up brightly, flashes 15 times and goes away. I have plugged it in and out numerous times, put the battery in and out numerous times. Held the poweron button while pluggingt it in and no matter what I do it flashes 15 times and that's it.
I have searched and searched and see nothing on this. I inspected the battery under a scope and it looks like the 3 connectors are too widespread. when I looked online, the battery is back ordered everywhere.
Am I going to need to send it all back to NOKIA for repair? Ugh!

Plug it in for 6-8 hours. If it doesn't work then, the only thing to do is send it back.

You bought it from Nokia? Too bad there isn't somewhere locally you bought it so you could just exchange it...

I bought it online from PROVANTAGE. Their ad says 'No Returns'.
I had it plugged in for 4 hours before I discovered nothing was happening. It won't turn on while plugged in either.

edit...and the battery doesn't get warm

I don't think that even Provantage can sell things that just plain don't work and not take them back, but be that as it may, Nokia might be your best bet. I might call Provantage and discuss the issue with them. Unless their ad says that the products they sell might not be functional.

I am happy to say that my unit now has the charging icon on it. One of the techs here took the battery under a microscope and bent the leads so it made contact with the positive terminal. Yeah! I also ordered another battery last night so should have that in a couple of days.

Makes me wonder what happened to the unit in the first place to bend the pins. (TexRat probably did QA on it - - kidding!)

Hey! *shakes fist at hedgie*

So the battery pins were bent???

Hmmm...

I gotta be careful about speculating, but... now I'm starting to wonder about these odd power-based issues...

I was thinking the same... because it seem like the problem reported in this forum appear to be from certain batch of devices (age and place of purchase?). Maybe the batteries used in these units is from certain manufacturer and certain date code?

The terminals are the springy type that should grasp the pins in the unit. I don't know where the battery came from before they put it in the unit but they obviously didn't test the unit with that battery. I am just soooo happy I didn't have to return the unit.
