What is the icon circled in yellow?
Is it a bow shock wave from hurtling into the future?
Is it the ad-hoc networking?
How is it turned on/off/administrated?

It seems to have been related to the maemo-pc-connectivity package which I had installed a day or so previously. After uninstalling maemo-pc-connectivity, the icon went away.

The original reason for asking is because coincidental with the icon's appearance, battery drain on my N900 accelerated enormously - almost completely drained in 10 hours after a complete charge.

There are apparently a number of issues with maemo-pc-connectivity, & it probably should be considered unsafe for installation in almost all cases:

As maemo.org transitions from Nokia authority & decisions are made about the repositories, I think it would be a good idea to create another repository like extras-defunct as a place to put packages that are no longer advisable for download, but retained for those who might want to take them up again & revise them for current use.
