how do you exactly run the shutdown command?
as user or as root?
what output do you see?

shutdown is only available as root. But somehow does not work as expected. Never got it running as used to ....

So just try
Code:
poweroff
or
Code:
init 0

i always run it as a root, and after a timer goes off the terminal just give me a new prompt while the phone was supposed to go off

Code:
shutdown now
shutdown -r +1
shutdown -h 19:17
...
all variants let the timer go by (or on time), but does nothing. Do not know why!

But above mentioned commands work. For timing just put some 'sleep x; poweroff' in advance.

thanks, seems poweroff -d (time in seconds) works very fine,
