Suddenly, my Skype account doesn't work. It gets validated, it gets signed in, it predictably sends me a flood of Skype messages and slows my phone down to death for a few seconds indicating that Skype has connected, but it never shows my contact statuses in the Phonebook so I can't call anyone.

Suddenly, my Facebook account cannot get validated. It says "No internet connection."

It's not fair to expect to get new features on a phone forever but you can at least expect the old ones to continue working! They should have some sort of a recycling program for the N900, some sort of phone upgrade/exchange at least! It's like we bought a brick and now have to buy a new one.
Well, send it to me and i can take care of it for a nominal fee

If you are serious about getting rid of it, then speak with vi_ on the forums. We raised some euros to relieve a colleague of mine off his N900 and it was subsequently despatched to a CSSU Thumb developer (with the aim of continuing to support the community). If we can coordinate a scheme to assist in this, rather than individuals flogging their N900s via ebay, this can only help the cause.

Skype account works fine on my N900, I can chat and call people in my phone book so it might only be related to your device. Go for a reflash and run for CSSU Testing (I never had any problem using it), this way you will have the last core updates.

m.facebook.com works ok on both Opera and MicroB, touch.facebook.com works quite ok on MicroB. You should get rid of the stock facebook widget if you still use it.

Your N900 is fine ... it's about user . Get an iPhone 4S or wait for 5 , it will work perfect for 8-9 months , until a newer iOS version comes out ... at that point all you can do is buying other phone .

Skype just works fine, but the default FB app is confusing. I like Sociality more. TS should try that package.

I think you will find it's been obsolete for a while.
This isn't going to stop this community using this device, releasing device updates and new applications.

I think asking for help with your problem rather than saying the device is trash worthy would be more constructive.

Many people are not having your problem.

It's a serious problem. I searched the forums and other people are having it too. It is a bit troll-ish though I guess haha.

I just needed Facebook to upload photos. And Skype, for well, take a guess? Lol.

Skype works fine here. FB I never tried.

I am more then happy to be able to rely on the N900's obsolescence not to find myself forced or tricked into the use of a new version of Skype, overhauled by MS Marketing dpt including "NEW: conversation ads" that intended to spark “meaningful conversations” about brands among users.

    http://blogs.skype.com/en/advertising/

MS bring on those brilliant idea's and the N900 will outlast Skype
