I read on the reflash page not to reflash if it is locked to a carrier network or branded... that might of changed.. but still..
You must have read it incorrectly...if you are on pr1.2 xyz carrier you can flash to global 001 pr legacy pr1.3 to get rid of all the branding...
What the guide must be referring to is those devices that are locked to a network not carrier branded per se...I don't know which country you are from but there are some carriers that lock the phone to their own network so you can't use any other carrier's sim card in your phone...
if that is not the case for you, just do a relfash...it its the case you can ask your carrier for an unlock code at a nominal fee and once unlocked you can flash to whatever you want...
I am not sure that the phone being locked has anything to do with firmware - at least for Symbian, if you had a operator branded AND locked device, you could flash a generic firmware with no problems although the lock would still remain active.
I assume that if you have a operator locked device you can still flash the generic firmware without problems. Only thing is that the SIM lock will remain as is, but you don't lose nothing by doing it. Just don't try to downgrade the device after!
