There was a time...
* 2002, it was called 7650. (the P800 followed months later)
* 2004, the 7710 (if you exclude its slow 150mhz cpu. it kicked P-Series in the balls)
* 2005 the N91 (though released a whole year later)
* 2006-7 .. the N95
* 2009 , the N900
* 2010, N8
Well all of them had their short-comings...That's what I was referring to...It has always been that Nokia would strip 1 or 2 features [either thro' software or hardware limitations] from their flagships hence never has there been a complete flagship phone from Nokia...
But my lg optimus black(has same gpu with n9) almost play anything smoothly (except 1080p of course), i think n9 need more codecs
Yup the SGX530 is able to handle the full range of 720p videos but due to the lack of codecs and drivers we have the issue on the n9...1080p on the other hand has no chance on the chip...
Just remember that the SGX530 is a 7-year old chip [from announcement]. OTOH the SGX540 used in the GNexus is less than 5-years old so the difference in video playback will be present...
