I wonder about this from time to time as well. I thought it was one of the official features at one point, but sadly no, the N900 and N9 were shafted by Nokia in this way. I think the earlier NITs had it though, right?

Yes. I have been able to use a USB GPS with an N800. (Bluetooth GPS more convenient, though)
USB on N900 is two steps backward. No easy host mode and micro USB connector is inferior to mini USB connector without really saving space.

The actual connector is half the size, but internally to the device? Couldn't tell for certain, but I'd lean toward you being correct. I only vaguely recall how big it was inside my N900, and I don't think I have paid attention to the size of the mini-USB in the few devices I have that use it. I only have my Bluetooth Keyboard and my PS3 controller. Other than that, all the other devices I use, have the Micro, which kind of makes it nice that I have a lot of cables because of it.

Wrong. There is already "easy" hostmode with kernel-power and Pali's USB Mode package. Just blame Pali for not putting it into repos - it's present on forum, as .deb package.
In case You're wondering, I'm *not* talking about H-E-N (which is great project itself), but latest implementation of userland bits by Pali, that set speed automatically, etc.

Hi Estel,
Since you seem to know already where to find the Pali latest implementation, can you point TMO users to a link ?
