On the contrary, cameras excluded, NOKIA's hardware has been behind the curve for a long while now. Ugly designs, slow processors and small amounts of RAM were much more of an issue than Symbian ever was. In fact it was a testament to Symbian it could even run on such modest hardware.

The breadth of functionality offered by Symbian on a shoestring was NOKIA's saving grace.

Now NOKIA have a real problem, they can't differentiate. Everything they can do Samsung can do better and cheaper.
I think you got a point there, a point that I used to reiterate. Even in the hardware dept NOKIA can't compete with Apple. I think they can compete with others though. The N9s are got are inferior to Lumias in construction overall. N9 was the biggest fail from NOKIA.

I fail to see how people are optimistic about Lumia or WP future.
What I have seen so far about WP8 doesn't change this.
Have you used lumia 800 or 900? It's a much better device than anything Nokia made except for n900

As an IT person of over 30 years, part time iPhone developer and a fledgling Android developer my phones of choice are

First and foremost N900
It is as near to perfection as I can get in a small form factor device, the quality of the hardware, functionality and near totally opensource OS means it will never be far from my side.

I just love that I can install PHP, opensource rulz!

Second Samsung Galaxy Note
Great little tablet, fairly decent phone and I just wish the N900 had a bigger screen, that is the only factor that persuades me to use this device. The closed nature of Android is just too painful to get anything useful done,

I can read books on how to develop PHP, gee great!

Testing devices iPhone/iPad various
Great devices for deploying software to for end users, could never use one as a day to day device as they just don't do what I want from a small form factor device but I recognise that customers, end users love the solid reliable feel of IT that just works.

I can pay to develop in PHP, no thanks!

Nokia current range of devices.
You only have to look at the Nokia website to see how bad it has tanked, What few non WIndows phones are listed are priced upto $600 without even a mention of the OS in sight, Windows phones are practically given away, the conclusion one can draw is they can't give them away. Neither gives me anything I need and it is unlikely I will return to Nokia devices anytime soon.

PHP huh? nuf said!

Only one voice but I doubt very much that I would consider developing on the Windows platform.

Having been Microsoft free for over 8 years now, my perfectly working and beautiful LINUX desktops, servers and devices have been like a breath of fresh air and it will be a cold day in hell that I ever return to such dross as Windows by choice.

rgds

Just sayin!

Although I had to do this from the hotel room, apparently I'm the only one who bothers with graphs, so here's some. Nok1V, Helsinki, €.

And please, stop feeding the troll.

I have actually seen a couple of people that bought a Windows Phone about a year ago.. and they deeply regretted it, though. Between simply having problems making things work or the unavailability of applications that other people have, they ultimately felt as if what they had wasn't really a smartphone but an over-glorified feature phone with a Microsoft logo.

That being said, it has been a very, very long time since I've seen another Windows Phone in the wild since those two people--and even those two eventually broke contract just to get something else--anything else. That's at least two negatively impacted experiences for which Microsoft will never come back from. I expect there will be many more stories like that.

I don't think he realizes he's not convincing anybody--especially not with the results and estimated sales figures (maybe Nokia is too embarrassed to release the actual figures?) the Lumia line have given so far. Don't point it out to him.. we don't want him to stop--it's like watching the silly, lying jester dancing around at a party.

Soooo much hate from the fat boy. I have none of the bad histories or feelings against any of the platforms. I could care less whether the platform is closed or open or what not. I have used most of them, and my bias is based on what works for me. I am probably more of the 99%, than most of you. There seems to be a collection of open source fanatics, customizable loving boys and girls, people who want to differentiate themselves with "device only for me", Euro lovers, and non-Euro lovers, decentralized thinkers and so on here.
Given above, and the fact that most of you here are the 0.0001%, nobody should build a phone around your requirements. Simple as that. Apple got it right and NOKI is trying to get it right with WP. I think they have a chance, and that is why I invested into them. The price is low. Very low, and I think they have to offer much more than RIM. So there you go.

Guess who makes Apple's hardware and win a prize!

Is it true the only bits of the iPhone made in the USA come from a Samsung plant in Austin, TX?

It's a shame for NOKIA the 99% don't know they're supposed to be like you.
