Have both repos...downloads normally, then flakes out w/ that cannot message on my N800 07.

All it says is "Cannot install mediabox"? No other error?
Try installing manually from the web site at http://mediabox.garage.maemo.org/download.html --- save the deb, and then open it using "Install from file" in app manager.
