@AlbertT TO revert back to closed or normal mode, you would have to do a full reflash (lose all data so back it up)

More info on flashing is here: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=82693

EDIT: you'd want to zeroize device.

    your ROM isn't at fault...

maybe post the output of errors here and describe your exact method of flashing the open mode kernel for someone to guide you...

    So thanks @thedead1440
Here is what i have done many times
sorry for my english,is not my native language

I downloaded the kernel file and copy to the flasher folder
    I rename zImage-2.6.32.54-dfl61-20121301 to openkernel
The rom image is img.bin and it is on the flasher folder too!!

I turn off the phone and its unplugged from the pc.

In the first post it says
    7) plug in your phone via usb to start flashing immediately.
when one command finishes {it will say 'Success'},
    IMMEDIATELY*run the next flasher command.
    if the phone reboots in between commands, start over or you will brick it.*{i find that the phone reboots in ~10s}

    FIRMWARE + KERNEL
NOTE: deletes apps, and a lot of settings {everything not in /home}.
does NOT delete DCIM, or anything else in MyDocs
*Nokia claims this voids your warranty*
    flasher -F firmware.bin -f
    flasher -F firmware.bin -k openkernel --flash-only=kernel -f -R

I changed the name so is like this:
    flasher -F img.bin -f
    flasher -F img.bin -k openkernel --flash-only=kernel -f -R

    So I run winflasher.
Because I have to enter the next flasher command quickly (flasher -F img.bin -k openkernel --flash-only=kernel -f -R ) First I wrote that and hit enter, then I cancell it (Ctrol + C)
So that the command line is in the memory And I can retype all of that just to move the arrow keys (up or down)

    1-type flasher -F img.bin -k openkernel --flash-only=kernel -f -R
    2-cancelled it (Control + C)
    3- run flasher -F img.bin -f
4-after the terminal says Success : I moved the arror keys until I find the previus command inserted.
    So I do it quickly,select :flasher -F img.bin -k openkernel --flash-only=kernel -f -R
    hit enter
5- it shows Success. Then n9 seems to boot, but cant boot. It shows only The nokia logo for about 1 or 2 seconds and then it shut down.
I press the power button again and happen the same.

I hope this will describe where Im wrong...

Ok this is what you do:

    1) Download open mode kernel: http://maemo.cloud-7.de/HARM/N9/1.3/...dfl61-20121301

    2) Rename this file to openkernel [as you desired]

    3) Open cmd.exe as admin

    4) cd c:\program files\nokia\flasher\ [assuming this is the path to flasher]

    5) flasher -a img.bin -k openkernel --flash-only=kernel -f -R

    6) Plug in your POWERED OFF device when the message "Suitable device/phonenet not found..." comes

    7) DONE

Edit: Sorry for the wrong link earlier...I had bookmarked both these sites on my browser so just took the first one

Kindly disable your sim lock and remove your sim card before repeating the procedure...

Edit: I just remembered you mentioning the N9 doesn't boot up so just plug out the sim card and repeat the procedure...

I bought my N9 64GB Black from ctinyc.com. Discovered it was a Vietnam variant.

I downloaded the United Kingdom and Ireland firmware using NaviFirm+ and reflashed my N9 with that firmware.

If I reflash to Open Mode and in future would like to revert back to Closed or Normal Mode, am I correct in thinking all I would need to do is reflash my N9 completely with the same UK and Ireland firmware and eMMC images (therefore, Zeroize device/Comprehensive reset) or do I need the very first/original kernel that came on the device?

Sorry, I'm a Noob at this. Many thanks for taking the time to reply
