If you ever have this N810 / giant pocket Linux machine in your hands, you forget every anger! This device blasts me away. I have now a pocketLinux, pocketSSH, pocketNMap, pocketBash and pocketPython and and and and and

And I don't even tried GPS and BT.

So please stop ranting and wait when Quim is back from holiday.

Yes, AJ is the closest thing to an accountable public figure in this mess, but I wouldn't expect too much from him.

His latest blog post from last December is a great number in auto-satisfaction and auto-congratulation. There have been 19 comments to that post, pointing out how his world view jars with the reality of broken servers after the OS2008 release and the discounts mess.

To which he replies :

"Some bumps in a good ride. My apologies!"

and

"I agree. The infra stuff is a bit out of hand. We try to learn from this, too."

So there... happy now ? :-)

Those comments from AJ were amazingly glib, which wasn't particularly surprising - he seems pretty out of touch with what's happening on the ground, as it were.

The phrase "Rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic" springs to mind whenever I think of maemo.org. - they're paying attention to trivial and unimportant issues while apparently ignoring the serious problems that will ultimately sink this project.

I hate to moan, but unless the situation improves soon (and with luck we can force that change by voicing our opinion publicly and often) the writing is on the wall for this project - and nobody will be to blame but Nokia themselves.

Quim says he is back in the office tomorrow. so hopefully he can look into this a little.

But, alas, the US store is again out of stock and the N810 is on backorder...

Just did, and surprise surprise... It does NOT work.

Of course now the nokiausa shop is out of the devices, and has an ETA of Jan 19.

So...er...Monday's over in Finland, and there's nothing on Maemo.org or Quim's blog or Ari's blog. No apology, no "we've been on vacation, are back, and know there's a problem, will update this week, no nothing. This is it, Nokia. This is what we're talking about.

I don't really care what's taking the damn codes so long, and you don't need to be able to come to us with actual answers or anything. JUST FREAKIN ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU F*CKED THIS UP, AND LET US KNOW THAT YOU'RE NOT WALKING AWAY.

Quim's message on the maemo mailing list :

Hi,
Back from holidays. I was more or less aware of the issues (thanks to
people posting here and there, also in my blog) but without any
possibility to do much. Other people in our team were following and
checking issues with the shops.

After a first round this morning:

- There are no issues in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, Finland,
Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland.

- We are getting reports from France, Germany, Italy, Spain and UK at
this moment. There have been some issues in some of these shops but let
me until tomorrow to summarize the situation.

- We will talk to US and Canada later today due to different timezones.

I'm hoping to post a general summary tomorrow, hopefully full of good
news. :/
