This is the kind of news we want. More of this please.

šAs for the smartphones based on the new OS that Jolla plans to introduce by the end of this year, Hurmola said that the company will decide the launch date for those devices later this week."
and another alliance for markets outside China is also planned
"Hurmola explained that Jolla plans to launch a similar alliance for the "global" market, but he declined to specify where it will be located and which countries will be targeted. "

Makes me think of that rumour about Amazon releasing their own handset.......
add an acl or something akin to libhybris that supports installation and running of apk and you have an instant worldwide ecosystem...

It all depends on functionality and performance, and how the Jolla phone behaves. If the UI don't flow with the application its not really needed. Let's say you could run Android apps on n9 via acl. That would be a waste since n9 lacks the Android application buttons, installation procedures is also something. And of course, the legal aspects.
This is just three issues realeted to using Android apps. If this acl working so great and jolla is serious of building an ecosystem on Android apps, then their phone must be able to work as an Android phone. If there are any limitations. It won't work and a native Android device is a much better option for buyer.
Community may eventually find a way*, ofc Jollla will provide little-to-no help with that (other than keeping things as open as practical).
Nor should they have to, their energies/resources need to be totally focused on THEIR device/s.
*given that it's based on MeR/Nemo it's quite possible

Thanks. So they don't restrict it like with a "N9? EXIT!" - Lock.
That's good to hear, i hope it works. Would be sad to sell my nice N9 after 4 months just for changing the OS.
N9 might eventually run into blockers like no more updated drivers for its GPU for newer kernels and so on. So it's good that it's usable with Nemo now, but nothing is really guaranteed in the long run.
