I have successfully installed RealVNC on my vista laptop (vista home basic OS-32bit) and on the N800, and able to access it via my N800 in my home wifi. But I have tried using it outside and a black screen appears and I cant see anything.

Anyway, I intend to install Hamachi on both N800 and Vista. Hamachi is already installed on the vista and I have searched the forum for N800 instructions. But I dont really understand.

This is the link that I have found for N800 and it did looked simple enough; BUT i dont understand the 2nd part which starts with vi ~/.hamachi/config

Hamachi:Install on Nokia N800
From LogMeInWiki

This is still a DRAFT

Install xterm
Install dropbear SSH
In xterm, do a dbclient root@127.1 with password "rootme" (if rootme doesn't work, update your Nokia software to the latest version, at least the 3/2007 version.
Change the user password so sudo works "passwd user <password"
Change the root password (since SSH is now open to the network) "passwd root <password"
Download the Nokia 770 build of Hamachi and save it in the root of the file system
In terminal "sudo gainroot" (if this fails, see how to force gainroot to think it's in R&D mode all the time

"cp /home/user/MyDocs/hamachi-0.9.9.9-20-n770.tar.gz /hamachi.tar.gz
"cd /"
"tar -zxvf hamachi.tar.gz"
"cp /hamachi/hamachi /usr/bin/hamachi"
"cp /hamachi/tuncfg /sbin/tuncfg"
"chmod 755 /usr/bin/hamachi"
"chmod 700 /sbin/tuncfg"
"ln -sf /usr/bin/hamachi /usr/bin/hamachi-init"Install is complete. Commands are the same as in the normal linux verions

[edit] Notes
"sudo" gainroot needs to be run each time, because the permission base for the Nokia embedded linux filesystem is not the same as a default linux install. This means your hamachi config will be created in /root/.hamachi instead of /home/<user>/.hamachi .

You may want to change the keepalive time due to the fact that this is a wireless device, and has potential for higher latency.

vi ~/.hamachi/config
keepalive 20
<press enter>
<press "Back" button on device>
:wq
The device does not have "ping" locally installed by default, but can be pinged.

However, How do I actually configure it on my vista and N800 (additional steps required after installing)?

Please advise.. Thanks in advance

I am having much trouble installing Hamachi on my n800 with OS2008.

Installed gainroot and dropbear.

first problem was
"cp /home/user/MyDocs/hamachi-0.9.9.9-20-n770.tar.gz /hamachi.tar.gz
The correct file name is hamachi-0.9.9.9-20-lnx-n770.tar.gz

second problem is after
"cp /home/user/MyDocs/hamachi-0.9.9.9-20-lnx-n770.tar.gz /hamachi.tar.gz
"cd /"
"tar -zxvf hamachi.tar.gz"
everything extracts to "/hamachi-0.9.9.9-20-n770"

So I altered the directions hoping it would work.
"cp /hamachi-0.9.9.9-20-n770/hamachi /usr/bin/hamachi"
worked

"cp /hamachi-0.9.9.9-20-n770/tuncfg /sbin/tuncfg"
i get
cp: omitting directory '/hamachi-0.9.9.9-20-n770/tuncfg'

Can anybody help me here?! As you can see I am a total linux noob. But I love using Hamachi on all my pc with vnc.

Thanks
