    Unmodified Avidemux-2.5.4 running on N900: http://youtu.be/_0qXCjdHFl0

UI needs tuning. Codecs need to be packed. It will still be slow.

I miss a mapplication that easily let me via a desktop application select lets say Norway and choose download, the let me export/import the data to the mapplication on the N900. I see there are loads of mapplications with nice features, the problem is that there are loads of these mapplications, and none is really really useful.

Well, Marble and ModRana sounds like what you're looking for. Both allow to download Monav navigational data, as packs for countries and continents.

Again: Avidemux, preferably optified for Maemo. And also: Goldendict, recompiled for Fremantle's graphical-user-interface libraries. Diablo's version is close to ideal, but preferences have to be modified in text editor due to non-working preferences-button, and there is an image-rendering bug.
    Best wishes.
