    I think the N900 should be able to support extra characters especially those characters available on "character map"

    For eg;

    Hey, I'm not sure exactly what you mean.

    Do you mean the hardware keyboard should be able to enter those keys? If so, then you can set that up that using the information found here:
    http://wiki.maemo.org/Remapping_keyboard

    If you mean something else thought, then can you clarify what you mean?

    I mean that ALL the characters in a windows based character map

    charmap.exe should be able to be displayed on the N900.

    Any special characters show up as "□□□□□□" on the N900 screen (in text messages, IM's, or anywhere there's a text field.

    My E-72 can display musical notes, hearts, etc...

    But NOT my N900.

    @WeASeL,

    Your N900 already supports UTF-8. Which program are you talking about? The "N900" is not a program. Do you mean e-mail, notes, xterm or what?

    Besides UTF-8 support you need a proper font (one that has the characters you want in it).

    Yes, this looks like what reinob said - a font issue.

    - Edit -
    I just came back to this thread from my N900. I only have one of the symbols you posted not appear correctly:
    ℗

    All of these, however, display just fine (in MicroB browser, XChat, Conversations messaging, and X-Term. Didn't test elsewhere, but that seems sufficient to verify that in general they work)
    ♫♪╨▼♪♦⸗ⱥ☻☺♀♂™№℅⅓⅔⅝⅞®¶µ©

    (The only exception is this one ♫, in x-term gets split into 3 other characters, but that's all the issue I saw.)

    This is what I meant.

    I can see the special characters in the title screen but they show up in the text field as illustrated.

    My problem was that inputing the characters into any one of the text fields would result in this.

    This is me copying and pasting the characters out of that Note (text document)

    It displays fine for me:
    • I copied and pasted from this page into a text file
    • scp'ed onto n900
    • opened it with Notes and all characters were shown properly

    I think I figured it out. Thanks for all your input.

    It's just the musical note that's giving problems for now.
