    Hello community!

I tried to search how to change the IM sound when new messages from IMs or when receiving texts from AND CONVERSATION BOX IS OPEN. The thing is, it has another sound, like "pop", does anyone know how can I change it, as there are no options for that in the settings.

    Thanks in advance!

Go to settings and then proflies. You'll see it's right there

... just read your post properly... you're right, it's not in the settings

    Please forgive my smartass-ness

no, there is no settings for that particular sound, try to open a conversation with a person and without minimizing it to background wait for him to reply. That tone I want to change

If you are talking about the one that sounds kind of like a ping pong ball bounce... it is the chat1 tone and yes it doesn't change with the im setting...

    have you tried rebooting?

well, it's not particulary IM sound, the sound I'm trying to explain is shorter than Chat1, and it plays when you receive text/IM from a person when the conversation window with him is still open

Well I am glad to say that I've found it!

The sound you're looking for is in:
    Code:
     /usr/share/sounds/chat-msg_in_fg.wav
All you need to do is use a wav sound, name your sound chat-msg_in_fg.wav and replace the default one using a file browser (I use Filebox)

Open Filebox on your N900 , or use WinSCP on your computer to access root files on ur N900 using wifi network ..
then simply go to this folder :
    /usr/share/sounds
this folder contain sounds of ur N900 like IM tone , SMS tone , ..etc >
some tones types are "WAV" like IM tone .. so you can just find another tone that must be ".wav" and change it's name with same name of the original tone in ur N900 , and then copy-and-replace .. it's done ..
    >>>>>>>
If u r interesting , I will share u some of my tones. I changed them with other tone that I like ... u can just download my zip folder, unzip it and copy-and-replace the tones in ur phone "sounds folder" , and see if sounds changed or not .. or just restart your phone if nothing happened ..
    >>>
this my favorite tones , it will replace the sounds of : new IM message when u out of chat window - new IM message when u in chat window - IM accounts log in - power off phone ..
they are collected from windows7-yahoo messenger- hotmail messenger .
