what's the best way syncing bookmarks between a desktop PC and a tablet? I guess it is some form of online service. Any advice as to what works well?

Thanks

I use del.icio.us to keep my bookmarks synced across all computers. But then sync isn't the right word because I don't keep the bookmarks on each machine.

It'd be nice if google's firefox extension worked. On the other hand, I tend to have a very different set of bookmarks on a mobile device than a desktop. What I would like is an email contact list sync between nokia tablet and thunderbird.

To bad the newest opera browser does not run on the platform anymore. Because it has built-in bookmark etc syncing.

*hoping for a miracle/opera*

I would like either Foxmarks or a Delicious bookmark sync extension.

i prefer netvouz over google or delicious for one simple reason: they support bookmark folders.

I know, I know, google zealots will say "tags are just as good as folders, you don't need folders". But, the fact is, that's just BS. Unfortunately, none of the well known bookmark sites seem to support foldering. But I haven't had any problems with netvouz.

*shrugs* I guess it depends on what you define BS. I work with graduate students in the HCIL lab I RA in. And one of them did research on the efficiency of tags over folders. If you tag things correctly then it should be easier to find then a folder. Though if you have a search for the bookmarks then I guess neither matters.

I said nothing about efficiency, I said similarity.

For example, with delicious (not sure about google), you can't do boolean searches on tags.

So, if I take the following bookmark structure and import it into a tagging system:
  • public
    • family
    • work
  • private
    • family
    • work

I can't easily just have it show me public family web pages vs private family web pages. It'll show me all pages marked family, or all pages marked private (if I have a page at the "private" folder (above family and work), then there's no way to show me the links that are ONLY at that level, it will show me everything that has a private tag).

Whether or not tags are more efficient than hierarchical storage doesn't change that hierarchical storage has its utility. Netvouz does both, and therefore gets all of the advantages of both. Google and delicious don't, and thus come up short.

I agree that hierarchial storage has its utility (it's why I have my pictures and music files setup in a way where it uses both tags and a folder structure on my hard drives).

I just thought you meant that tags weren't as efficient as a folder structure.

If there was a way to say "give me all bookmarks WITH these properties AND WITHOUT these properties" or "give me all bookmarks WITH these properties AND no further properties", along with wildcard/regular-expression matching on tag names, then I would actually be fine with giving up foldering (because you can otherwise emulate folder with tags). I just have yet to see a tag system that gives you that granularity for organizing things.
