Does the accelerometer in the N900 report only axial tilt of the device, or will it also report force?

Accelerometers are used when testing cars on skidpads to indicate the force at which a car is going around a curve. These reports are usually in G's but a scale of just 1% to 100% of the accelerometer measurement would be useful to have.

it can report in G's - sensitivity is 2G (or theoretically 8G, but I don;t know how to change that) with 1mG resolution. See http://wiki.maemo.org/N900_accelerometer for more info.

I've installed AccDisplay just to try it out. It certainly goes beyond 2 just by waving the phone around. I guess I need to swing it really hard to reach 8.

I was unaware of AccDisplay. It's a nice tool.

It would be nice to have some kind of application that recorded a log, had a simplified simple numeric display indicating just the axis undergoing change, & a couple of settable alarms.
