In short it's possible but it isn't likely to happen and even if it was ported it would only give Win32 compatible APIs which might help if someone was porting a windows application but wouldn't allow windows applications to run as they are compiled for an IA32 (intel 8086 family) instruction set. In theory the CPU could be emulated (using Bochs for example) but the performance would be too awful for words. In conclusion, theoretically possible but even if it were to happen it wouldn't do what I expect you want it to do.

i was hoping maybe there was some updated news or a quick answer

I searched for "wine" with the options "search titles only" and found 4 threads that answered exactly this question. I'm sorry that my link didn't work, but I did test it before posting.

As for updated news: "The processor in the Nokia N8x0 has still not changed into an x86 processor. Microsoft has still not ported Windows XP/Vista to the ARM platform."

    PS: great pic.

okay, fair enough...i thought you were just trying to be a smart@$$ for a second, because i hate it when people take the time to just post "use the search feature" rather than any real meaningful information - its like no *****, i know about the damn search feature already

but yeah, maybe i should just have limited it to titles

    thanks

I thought the same as you too Kcott but clearly we misunderstood Johnx's intentions!

The discussion threads weren't very helpful. "No" is easier to type, but for me the question is more subtle. The only thing that doesn't work for me on the n810 are internet radio streams which use the windows speech codecs. My ubuntu laptop gets around this using libwine to load DLLs from windows. Similar codec DLLs exist for Windows Mobile. So it would be really useful to be able to access Windows Mobile DLLs, and shouldn't be difficult.

Could wine be adapted to run windows mobile 6? or a previous version?

Interesting idea, but Windows Mobile is not Windows, and I don't think it's similar enough for adapting WINE to work. But a similar project could bew made that would be equivalent to WINE, only for Windows Mobile.
