    RDesktop on N810 - UltraVNC Server on Vista

    I'm new to the whole VNC thing, but I really want to make it work. Here's where I'm at;

    I've got RDesktop installed on the N810, with my PC's external IP address as the RDP Server. Username identical to the logged on username in Vista. Password set the same as the password in UltraVNC server. Domain left blank and the "Save Settings" box ticked.

    When I tap the OK box the screen just freezes with the settings window at the front. Is this meant to happen?

    I have windows firewall set with the right open ports for the UltraVNC Server (5900), and the router firewall is off.

    Have any of you got RDesktop working with UltraVNC version 1.04 RC8 (Vista compatible)? I'm aware this might be the Vista part that's letting me down, but I want to eliminate RDesktop as the problem.

    I don't want to shoot myself in the foot - but I think you have the wrong client (rdesktop). Rdesktop uses RDP - which is not the same protocol as VNC.

    Download the VNC viewer, works flawlessly for me (N770 2007HE + Ultravnc WinXP).

    Oh, I see. I thought VNC and RDP were the same thing, just renamed to suit Microsoft. I've now found the N810 version of VNC Viewer and it works a treat! Cheers buddy!

    If you have managed to get RDesktop to run on your N810, then you should be using Port 3389 and not the vnc port.

    You will also need to have access on port 3389 thru your firewall.

    RDP (to windows machines) in some instances can be a faster protocol.
