I have tried rebooting the phone, even removing the battery, but the same thing is happening - CPU constant between 40-60%. I was running the previous thumb update for the last couple of months and this CPU issue did not occur. Any ideas please?
most probably your libpulse0 is not updted.

do apt-get install libpulse0, that should fix the issue

I'll issue a new update fixing that prolem, sorry for the troubles

I just tried your suggestion but it says "libpulse0 is already the newest version" - What version do I need & how do I check my current version please?

Ok thanks, that has allowed me to reinstall libpulse0_0.9.15-1maemo44+0m5+0cssu4+thumb0_armel.deb but unfortunately I am still left with the original problem of high constant CPU usage. I notice too that now after I reboot the phone the volume slider is set to the "muted" option. Wait, in fact I have no audio at all - no ring tone, no music playback nothing. Help!

raaj13,

Instead of suggesting various things that may not help since his system reports he's on the latest version, give him the version number of libpulse0 that you think he should install with apt-get install libpulse0=XXXXXX

I am not talking about libpulse package that he already installed the latest one.
Some of his pulseaudio packages might be of older version.
It's better to do a upgrade since more packages might be held back.
I would tell him package version of pulseaudio if i was running on thumb alone. But my N900 is running on thumb+devel so the packages version are quite different from thumb so can't mention that version number to him

What are the names of all of the thumb compiled pulseaudio packages? - I might try reinstalling them but not sure what they are called.

Thanks

OK I think I'm sorted now. I reinstalled pulseaudio and now the sound is back working again and CPU levels are normal.

Here is what I typed.
agt-get install --reinstall pulseaudio
and after reboot things appear normal. The only thing I'm now unsure about is whether or not I am using the thumb pulseaudio packages or the original non thumb ones - how can I tell?
