Hi all,

Here is my first attempt to package the latest version of VTun :

VTun :

VTun is the easiest way to create Virtual Tunnels over TCP/IP networks.

Overview :

It support various tunnel types and provides many useful features :
- Encryption
- Compression
- Traffic shaping

VTun is easily and highly configurable. It can be used for various network tasks :
- VPN
- Mobile IP
- etc

Homepage :

http://vtun.sourceforge.net/

Download packages from extra-devel :

Activate all repositories following this tutorial : Repositories Activation

Then, as usual, as root, install with :

Code:
-bash-2.05b# apt-get install vtun && vtund --help
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  mbarcode-plugin-webrequest
Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them.
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  vtun
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 0B/70,8kB of archives.
After this operation, 258kB of additional disk space will be used.
Selecting previously deselected package vtun.
(Reading database ... 49833 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking vtun (from .../vtun_3.0.3-1maemo0_armel.deb) ...
Setting up vtun (3.0.3-1maemo0) ...
vtund: invalid option -- -
VTun ver 3.X 03/19/2013
Usage:
  Server:
	vtund <-s> [-f file] [-P port] [-L local address]
  Client:
	vtund [-f file] [-p] [-m] [-t timeout] <host profile> <server address>
-bash-2.05b#
After successful installation, just use it !!!

Hope you like it ...

A++

Hmmm... this with noip.com's prog running could give great results to avoid workplace restrictions, be it for muds, quakeing etc (80->xyz). Not sure I get the client/server thing though. One can setup a tunnel just using ssh (btw noip's prog compiles nicely, attached, just needs a conf file/account, whether it works for GPRS/3G I do not yet know)
Attached Files
File Type: gz noip.tar.gz (18.3 KB, 78 views)

Looks very interesting, thanks you!

Although, I also don't get benefits/differencies over ssh (yet) - it is about speed, customizability, or what? I need to google a bit about it, it seems.

Looking at the website the immediate advantages over ssh/netcat I can spot are that I doesn't only tunnel IP, but also serial, ethernet and Unix sockets.

+ fun thing - if hyper-security is needed, it can also tunnel inside ssh tunnel, still keeping all above pros. I just suspect not oh-so-great performance, then (but for lower security needs, aka what 99,99% of us will ever need, plain vtun with correct options, seems secure enough).

See mainstream page, instructions are there. You need server and client, so your use case would work, if you would have server on "free" zone.
