    N900 died - cold flash doesn't work

    Hi,

I wanted to test Nemo on my spare N900. I used the instruction as here: http://wiki.meego.com/ARM/N900/Install/EMMC

But when the flashing was in process I realized that I forgot to install netcat. Then I ctrl+c-ed, 'cause I needed to leave.

Now I wanted to try flashing again, but the N900 refused to even power up. Tried cold flashing... succeeded, but I'm not sure about the hw revision

    Code:
    marcin@marcin:~/de-installer$ sudo flasher-3.5 -h RX-51:2101 -F /media/marcin/RESTORE/setup/Programy/n900/flasher/RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin -c -S usb

Then I tried flashing the nolo, as written in the wiki. But "Suitable USB device not found" persists. Only Nokia logo is visible on the screen, from time to time it vibrates and the screen is being lit.

I tried installing latest Nemo Mobile, and back flashing PR1.3

Well, the battery didn't come to my mind as it was working very recently.
This did the trick and I managed to flash nolo. Then combined image, mmc, and combined once again (as the meego wiki page suggested). Trying to boot it now...

Now I noticed that after `flasher-3.5 -R` the hw revision is detected as 2104. And I cold flashed it with 2101. Is it a problem?

I am glad I could help you. Just as a tip, install your version of maemo using maemo flasher, and then download nokia pc suite and do an update. By doing this, with both my N900 I never experienced a fw problem .

Yes, coldflashing to wrong hw -rev most likely will give you trouble.
Why did you coldflash, to start with? Why did you flash NOLO (which btw is the same as coldflash)

The symptoms were as if it was needed (suitable device not found even about flasher-3.5 -i.

Will re coldflashing with the hw rev detected now (2104) and reflashing combined do the trick?

I did nolo flash as it was stated so in the wiki

The only symptom indicating that you need a coldflash on N900 is when the dim NOKIA screen doesn't show up.

I don't know what happened exactly by coldflashing using wrong hw-id, but at least the eMMC is different on different hw-revisions, so you might encounter failing uBoot or dunno what. I'm also not sure what will happen when you coldflash with differnet / correct(?) hw-ID now, but I guess it can't be worse than what already been done.

    cheers

ps: again: NEVER do coldflash unless you clearly see that NOLO doesn't work anymore. coldflash isn't needed for anything else but restoring broken NOLO, and I haven't seen a single report of broken NOLO so far, probably since not even changing OS to nitdroid or nemo does even touch NOLO.

    Thanks

The vanilla image has only one 'mmc' component... Redid everything with correct hw rev and will see what
