I don't know what is happening, but my touchscreen is going crazy. I first thought it was a problem with static and the "Fellowes" screen protectors I was using. Basically, the screen stops responding. I touch on the right of the screen and the browser menu on the left opens up. I try to use the D pad buttons and the highlighter races through the menu w/o stopping. Nothing responds and I can never get what I am actually touching to open. So, I took off the screen protector, took out the battery for a few minutes, put on a new protector, and voila, it worked fine....for two-three weeks. This happened over and over.

I just updated to the official OS2008. Things were going great (besides the extremely slow downloads) and suddenly it started again. I took the screen protector off for good and now nothing works. The touchscreen randomly stops responding. It seems to happen when I'm in Application Manager, but I am trying to load all of the software and spending most of my time there anyway.

Any ideas. Please tell me my screen isn't going bad!!!!

Have you tried running Control Panel -> Screen Calibration? You can also run the calibrate app by hitting the menu key from the main desktop screen and scroll to Calibrate screen.

Yep, many times. And when it's going crazy, I can touch in random places on the screen and it thinks I am touching in the little circle, and vice versa.

OK. I tried to reflash the official OS2008 and now I can't even get past the language setup screen before the touchscreen stops responding. I am getting the sinking feeling that I am going to have to deal with Nokia repairs. Arrggggh

OK. I got my N800 back from repairs. They did replace the touchscreen, but now the casing won't seat properly along the top of the unit. I think they did not install the screen properly. I've contacted Nokia repairs to see what they have to say for themselves. Is there no quality control????

Have you taken the faceplate off? See Thoughtfix's guide to disassembly, and don't worry, there's really nothing to go wrong just taking the faceplate off.

Mine came from the factory with the upper right corner feeling "funny". Kinda springy. On disassembly, I found one of the clips along the top was bent, and rather than clipping the face in, it was springing it out. A little tweak with pliers (carefully, this does risk harm, obviously), and it reassembled beautifully.

I took of the faceplate and it looks like they broke two of the clips on the body along the top so that the faceplate can't attach. Certified repair techs right? Does anyone have a contact email/address/number for the manager over quality control? Oh, and by the way, their reply to me was sorry, just send it back in and we will prioritize your repair. So I have to pay shipping again and wait for them to hopefully fix something that they broke the first time!!! Maybe I should just take the shipping money to Vegas and see if I can make enough to buy a new unit.

well you could always just find a store that sells the 800 , buy one , exchange the faceplates then return it lol
